  1. Navigation

    Navigation purposes

  2. I highly recommend this app for navigating by car. It offers the most customizable route planning features, along with added functionalities like a dashcam, early collision warnings, and speed alerts ect. Additionally, it’s one of the few services that also supports route planning via public transportation. The company behind the service is based in the Netherlands, and they are fully committed to privacy and GDPR compliance.

  3. I prefer Organic Maps over OsmAnd because it’s more simplified and offers more frequent map updates. It's great for basic car navigation. However, I’d primarily use this app for hiking and biking, as it excels in those areas."

This app offers the closest experience to Google Maps or the Qwant maps. It’s owned by a private company but remains GDPR compliant. It has most of its features stored on the cloud, though it doesn’t perform well offline. I personally like it for its excellent display of POI information, including opening hours, website links, and more.

  7. The easiest and most fun way to collect points on the go, with a leaderboard to track your progress as the top contributor. It’s a quick way to answer simple questions on the map, and it’s enjoyable to hike while adding the requested information. You can even customize the questionnaire to suit your preferences.

I’d call this app the perfect JOSM for mobile phones. It’s a bit visually outdated and can be confusing at first. It might also be time-consuming while hiking, but it’s an incredibly powerful editor.

Great list, I was so hyped by Qwant Maps, so disapointed about them killing this product. I discovered more contributing app thanks to this list. I might do my part 🫡

Exactly. I was such a Qwant fan too. It is similar to the Mapy.cz but then French and more privacy focused. Now Mapy.cz is owned by Seznam.cz, a.s. And more commercial minded and uses more third-party services. Still better than the Google maps. So try to find the app that suits your needs the best.
