Like with how Mozilla removed Bypass Paywalls Clean, it isn't any stance they're taking when removing it. In this case they were legally obligated to remove it because of DMCA claims.
If you don't think Firefox respects free speech then don't use Firefox, simple.
I usually use Mullvad, built on Firefox, because it has better fingerprint protection. I have Firefox just for a bunch of useful addons, like cleanly downloading media off places like Instagram.
