ZumoCast

I couldn't get this to work at all with my Surface Pro, with the Server installed on Windows Server 2012. Clicking on the "Movies" or "TV Shows" button in the web interface didn't do anything. I tried it with Firefox and IE.

I just tried streaming a 720p movie on ZumoCast at 3G speeds, and honestly, I spent more time looking at the loading bar than I did watching the movie. My internet speed downstream was 2.2 Mbps, which is actually a pretty good speed for a mobile device. So it seems that streaming HD movies is impracticable in most real-life situations. However, music seemed to play fine (as far as I could tell from my iPod's speakers), and I still have no verdict on standard-def video.

Also, another interesting feature that ZumoCast offers is the ability to actually download a file from your desktop to your iPod, over the internet. Most streaming apps for iOS don't offer this feature so if you, say, happen to pick up a Wifi signal while you're traveling, you could download your movies for offline viewing. I probably won't be using this feature much, but you might find otherwise.

The best feature of ZumoCast is its ability to stream any video of any format on your iPod, from anywhere with an internet connection. You don't have to waste 3 hours transcoding a movie into a MP4 file, and then waste another 30 minutes syncing the file into your iPod, which ends up with you wasting 1.5 GB of your device's storage. All you need is Wifi or 3G. Though I personally haven't tested the video quality for ZumoCast on 3G, I can assure you that it looks fantastic on wifi.
