What is Deckle for Mac?
Deckle is a free, open-source macOS menu-bar application that places a subtle paper-grain texture over the entire screen. Its purpose is to make digital screens feel more like physical paper during long reading, writing, coding, or design sessions. It is inspired by the idea of handmade paper and “deckle edges”—the soft, irregular edges created during traditional papermaking. Core experience Deckle creates a translucent texture overlay across every connected display. The overlay: Covers the screen with paper-like grain. Does not block clicks or keyboard input. Does not create another window that needs managing. Runs entirely from the macOS menu bar. Can be toggled globally with ??P. Uses very little CPU while idle. It is not a blue-light filter. It does not change the screen’s color temperature or reduce blue-light emission. Instead, it breaks up the perfectly uniform glow of a modern display by adding a matte, textured visual layer.
