What is WSL UI?

WSL UI is a lightweight desktop app for managing Windows Subsystem for Linux distributions through a modern graphical interface, replacing complex command-line administration.

Dashboard & Monitoring — View all distributions with real-time CPU, memory, and disk usage. Filter by status, WSL version, or installation source.

Full Lifecycle Management — Start, stop, restart, rename, clone, export, move, and delete distributions. Compact VHDX files to reclaim disk space, resize virtual disks, enable sparse mode, and move distributions between drives.

Install From Multiple Sources — Set up new distributions from the Microsoft Store, Docker/Podman container images, the LXC image catalog, or custom URLs with checksum verification. Includes a built-in OCI implementation — no Docker installation required.

Visual Configuration Editors — Edit global .wslconfig and per-distribution wsl.conf settings through a GUI instead of manually editing config files.

Desktop Environment Support — Built-in setup scripts for XRDP on Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, and openSUSE, plus Win-KeX for Kali Linux, with automatic RDP connection handling.

Custom Actions — Create reusable commands with variable substitution that target specific distributions by name or regex pattern. Run them on startup or on demand.

Backup & Restore — Export distributions to .tar archives and import them back with custom names and locations.

17 Built-in Themes — Dark, light, high contrast, and accessibility options, plus a custom theme editor with 29 adjustable colour variables.

System Tray Integration — Minimize to tray with quick access to distributions and terminal sessions.

Privacy-First — Analytics are opt-in and disabled by default. No personal data is ever collected.

Built with Tauri, React, and Rust. Available from the Microsoft Store and GitHub.
