The most renown feature of Word Lens, its ability to instantly translate and replace words, is only available as an in-app purchase. The free version of Word Lens can only flip words backwards, as a sort of demo.
As far as I can tell from the demo, Word Lens works, but just barely. Your hand CANNOT MOVE AT ALL, or the app will go all crazy and nothing will show up right. But if you keep your iPhone super still, Word Lens will actually translate the words right in front of you. Holy crap! Holding your iPhone still enough might be too difficult to do in normal real-life situations, but at least Word Lens is a really cool trick.
