What is WebCite Citations?
Webcite is a verification API built for people who work with complex documents and can't afford to get facts wrong. Think consulting firms writing client deliverables, research teams summarizing academic literature, analysts compiling due diligence reports, or AI apps generating content that needs to hold up under scrutiny.
You send a claim or a whole document. Webcite checks it against real sources: academic journals, government databases, business publications, industry reports, and news. For each claim, you get back a verdict (supported, contradicted, mixed, or unverifiable), a confidence score, and the exact passages from the sources that back it up. Every citation includes a credibility score so you know how much weight to give it.
It works as a REST API or via real-time streaming. Most teams plug it into their existing workflow as a verification step. If you're using LangChain, LlamaIndex, or building your own agent pipeline, it drops right in. Works with output from any LLM: OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Google Gemini, Llama, or whatever you're running.
