Wallbase.cc was a searchable wallpaper database with a very powerful search engine delivering relevant wallpapers in a fraction of a second.
All the content was uploaded by the users.
Since the website's owner disappeared and the staff members were no longer able to continue managing the website, 
Wallhaven was created as a side project of the original and discontinued wallbase.
Discontinued
The official website is no longer available since the owner, Yotoon, is missing.

There are thousands (literally, I think) of wallpaper sites. One thing that's common to most of them is bad interface and long loading times.

This site is best understood once you visit it. Ads appear only in the minimal possible locations. Wallbase load with many customisable options and the interface is THE BEST that I have ever seen on a wallpaper site. Users are very active here on the new forum apart from tagging and rating the millions of wallpapers that have been scraped from various image sites.
