Comment summary: Ubuntu Touch is highly praised for its focus on privacy, open-source nature, and supportive community. Users appreciate its convergence features, allowing connection to external devices for a desktop experience. Many find it a commendable alternative to Android and iOS, despite a smaller app store and limited device support. An awesome OS created by an even greater community. I use Ubuntu Touch for my Fairphone after using the OS on the Oneplus One before.

My Qosmio needs Ubuntu, my Nexus needs UT.

Free of Google and Apple spying, what's not to like. But Ubuntu Touch is much more than just an alternative to those OS's; it's a community-driven Open Source project that has privacy focus at its core and that, is truly a freeing experience, in every sense of the word! Plus, the potential that UT OS has over any other, is a good enough reason to at least try it! I got myself a Nexus 5 (Hammerhead)-(£40 in a local shop) and quickly and easily installed UT on it using the Ubports installer. Bought a second one for my wife soon after (2 weeks ago) and so far, she's happy too! It's early days yet for her and not being a techie person at all, I thought she wouldn't like it because the interface is a bit different from the Android she was used to, but so far so good.

Been using UT on a Nexus 5 I bought for the purpose for about a year now. I love it and would really like to be able to give more back to the project. It is still a work in progress and has a few rough edges but for anyone who wants as close as they can get to a full Linux system on a phone in the palm of their hand it scores full geek points. It works superbly well, is slick and fast and looks really nice. Love it! Well done team..long may it continue!!

Alternative mobile operation system focused on security, simplicity and freedom of choice. It's a continuation of Canonical's original Ubuntu Touch OS, supported by a large community and offering it's own app ecosystem to it's users. Apps for popular social networks are available, as well as many other apps for daily use like text editors, synchronization apps, navigation apps, games/game emulators, multimedia apps and many others. It still lacks providing alternatives to some popular Android/iOS apps, which for some users may be crucial, but new app developers show interest in the system very often, which results in a bigger app variety for the users. It does not track it's users in any way, nor it makes profit by promoting online services via advertisements. As a user I can say that in no time I've got used to it and now I don't want to look back at Android.

What is Ubuntu Touch?

Ubuntu Touch is a mobile version of the Ubuntu operating system for mobile devices. It is adapted to run naturally in a mobile, touch-screen environment but is also capable of functioning as a desktop computer while in "desktop mode". This aforementioned converging of environments from device to device is where the term "Convergence" originates. Ubuntu Touch is made and maintained by the UBports Community, a group of volunteers and passionate people across the world, and is not in any way endorsed by or affiliated with Ubuntu or Canonical.
