Unfortunately, unlike other Linux alternatives, the back-end is proprietary.
If you at all value free and open-source software, stay away from this until / unless Canonical decides to release the back-end under a free and open-source license.
Canonical has a very bad track record of maintaining security, there have been at least three breaches that i know of:

With one of them having a user losing $490K . Part of the problem in my opinion is that the backend is closed source so there is less buy in from the community to improve security (I don't recall anything like this happening to flathub or nix or AUR). Also in nix and flathub and AUR the website links to the manifest so you can check the software is builted from trustworthy sources.
Also confinement does not work for some linux distributions which can cause serious security risks because services run as root , see:

Impossible to create an account with Ubuntu Software Centre, it requires a 'captcha' image to be entered that is completely unreadable. 20 to 30 attempts all failed, hence the need for an alternative!
