What is Type Piano?
Type Piano is a complete free native desktop instrument for 88-key performance from a computer keyboard, MIDI controller, or the on-screen A0-C8 keyboard. Every input path shares the same note ownership, velocity, sustain, and visible key-state logic, so switching control methods does not create inconsistent or hanging notes.
Its four distinct sound engines include streamed Studio Grand and Felt Room sample voices, a velocity-responsive FM Classic EP, and the additive Glass Piano. The realtime local engine supports velocity layers, sustain and CC64, release behavior, resonance, pedal samples, device-rate playback, and bounded sample streaming without loading the entire piano library into memory.
The complete Community Edition is free for Windows and Linux. It runs offline as a desktop instrument and does not require an account, a browser tab, or cloud processing.
