I use Tripadvisor before I go somewhere, check out what ordinary people says about a hotell and that give me always a fair and right way of how the Hotel is. Then I book truh Hotels.com or some website like that
TripAdvisor is useful because it aggregates information BUT it's a very scammy website. I once left a poor review of a coffee shop with a photograph of the receipt and how I was hassled by the staff there. Shortly after, my review was flagged as fake (the reason given was 'fake review, someone that never visited the location'... I had the receipt from there omg!!!) and 6 new 5-star reviews popped up for the coffee shop that had stock photos (the owner provided stock photos from when the place was constructed to a company that does fake reviews for Trip Advisor). Essentially what happened is Trip Advisor accepted money from other people to add fake reviews to the listing. Basically, TripAdvisor takes money to remove negative reviews and suppress them. So keep that in mind.
I tried searching for a rental car on TripAdvisor. Unfortunately, I only got one result which was an electric vehicle.
If you're a woman who likes to keep yourself safe, don't use TripAdvisor. They hide hotel reviews from female users who said they were harassed and raped by locals or the hotel staff on the hotel or the place they were staying. If you're really desperate, go consult Expedia or Booking.com or Google Maps. They provide better reviews.
Tripadvisor sits back and waits for hotels to fill in information. Therefore it's full of miscategorized hotels, non existent hotels and hotels with wrong information. Unfortunately there is no alternative to Tripadvisor, that is why it's so popular. Any alternative with accurate hotel data would be #1 worldwide.
