What is Tildes?
Online communities are in a precarious and unhealthy state right now.
Major internet platforms are exhibiting a wide range of issues: they collect our personal data and fail to protect it; amplify outrage and encourage mob harassment; spread false information and radicalize viewpoints; and allow racism and hate speech to propagate. These are all incredibly serious issues, yet they're still only a small sample of the problems that are becoming apparent.
The companies behind the platforms know their products cause these negative effects, but they've decided to treat them as acceptable costs instead of taking decisive action to address the issues. Only legal or public pressure seem to produce meaningful responses.

Comments and Reviews
A few of the things I like about it: Has a "Exemplary" label for labeling high quality content . You can only label one every eight hours, so it acts kind of like a "super upvote". Can show comments that were not read. When visiting a post, it can show you comments added since the last visit, this can make it easier to read all the comments on a post you care about. You can subscribe on RSS to tags, so you can get a RSS notification whenever someones submits a post that includes the tag "cooking" for example. You can also put a "label" on users (basically a text that appears next to the name) so you can write if it is maybe not worth it to debate with a user or if he is particularly knowledgable about certain topics . for example he maintains a open source project (but you need to download the firefox addon "Tildes ReExtended" for that) . one disadvantage is that you can't downvote users (basically provide negative feedback) and it felt at times this might make people overconfident (kinda felt like facebook). But overall i feel like the quality of content on it on average is higher then other reddit alternatives.
The best place for meaningful discussion on the Internet.
Kinda shitty that its and invite only and there isnt really a way to contact anyone to see you you can be invited.
You can request a invite on their subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/tildes/
There is also a email address you can use to request a invite on their contact page: https://docs.tildes.net/contact
