What is Tagara?

Tagara is a push-to-talk dictation app for macOS that runs entirely on your Mac. Hold the right Option key, talk and let go: the text is typed wherever your cursor is, in the terminal, Slack, the browser or any text field, about 0.2–0.4 s after you release the key.

Transcription uses the open Parakeet model on Apple Silicon's Neural Engine. The audio is never saved or sent anywhere, there's no account, and when idle it uses 0% CPU with the mic closed. It understands English and Portuguese, puts your clipboard back the way it was, and keeps a local history of the last 50 dictations that you can turn off.

Native SwiftUI menu bar app, free and open source under the MIT license. Requires macOS 15 and Apple Silicon.
