What is Syslinux?

The Syslinux Project covers lightweight bootloaders for the MS-DOS FAT filesystem (SYSLINUX), network booting (PXELINUX), booting from the ISO 9660 filesystem (ISOLINUX), and Linux ext2/ext3/ext4 or Btrfs filesystems (EXTLINUX). Additionally, the EXTLINUX bootloader supports FAT, NTFS, UFS/UFS2, and XFS filesystems. The project also includes MEMDISK, a tool to boot legacy operating systems (such as DOS) from nontraditional media; it is usually used in conjunction with PXELINUX and ISOLINUX.
