It's a quality app. Looks good and plays well. Has been alive much less time than Synthesia yet is still stable, easy to install (don't worry, no compiling from source), and looks great!

What is Symphonium?

A tool to help while learning to play the piano. Similar to Synthesia (proprietary), Linthesium and Piano from above (both discontinued).

3 Modes available with control on speed and track selection : listen, practice and play. Listen doesn't require a MIDI keyboard and show the note played in a MIDI recording. Practice will wait for you to play on a MIDI device the note displayed before going on. Play will show the notes to play and play the complementary hand if you are currently learning a single hand.

For all those modes, it's possible to set a desired speed, to select the hands to play and to restrict to specific parts of the song.
