Sunsetless EWS

Sunsetless EWS is a .NET library that replaces Microsoft's EWS Managed API package (Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices 2.2). It keeps the same namespace, types and methods, so existing Exchange Web Services code compiles unchanged, and its calls run on Microsoft Graph.

It worked like a charm after just five minutes of setup - no code changes required. Everything worked out of the box. I started with the free trial to make sure it met my needs, and it did. Highly recommended!

What is Sunsetless EWS?

Sunsetless EWS is a .NET library that replaces Microsoft's EWS Managed API package (Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices 2.2). It keeps the same namespace, types and methods, so existing Exchange Web Services code compiles unchanged, and its calls run on Microsoft Graph.

Exchange Online requires an allow list for EWS apps from October 10, 2026 and removes EWS on April 1, 2027. Microsoft's advice is to rewrite for Graph. Sunsetless EWS is for teams that would rather keep years of working code.

To switch, you replace the NuGet package with Sunsetless.Ews, add the Graph permissions your code needs to your Entra ID app, and set four values: tenant ID, client ID, a client secret or certificate, and the license key.

Coverage includes mail, calendar and meetings, contacts, tasks, search filters, extended properties, sync and notifications. The library runs inside your application and calls Graph with your own app registration, so mail never passes through a third-party server. In a hybrid setup, calls for Exchange Online go to Graph and calls for on-premises Exchange stay on EWS.

Each scenario was run through live EWS and through the library, and the responses were compared field by field. The compatibility page on the website lists every difference found, plus what Graph cannot do at all, such as public folders in Exchange Online.

Runs on .NET Framework 4.8 and .NET 8, 9 and 10. A second package, Sunsetless.Ews.NETStandard, replaces the community .NET Standard port (Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.NETStandard). A free trial key is available on the website without a card. Paid licenses cover one application, a whole tenant, or a product shipped to customers.
