SunCast

SunCast is an iPhone and iPad app for planning sunlight conditions at a specific location, date and time. It calculates the sun’s position and visualizes its path using augmented reality, interactive maps and Street View. It also provides sunrise and sunset times, golden hour, blue hour, twilight phases, azimuth, elevation, day length, shadow ratio and hourly cloud-cover forecasts. Its 3D map visualizes shadows cast by mapped buildings and terrain. A construction shadow simulator lets users place, resize and rotate virtual buildings to examine how planned structures may affect surrounding shadows. Users can also select mapped buildings to view estimated roof solar potential, panel capacity, annual sunshine and energy output. SunCast includes Home Screen widgets and alarms or notifications for solar events such as sunrise. It is intended for photographers and filmmakers planning natural light, home buyers evaluating sunlight, gardeners estimating sun exposure, hikers planning daylight and shade, and people exploring architectural or solar considerations. The free version supports sunlight planning for the current location and current date. Additional locations, dates and features are available through an optional subscription.
