StatsD is described as 'A network daemon that runs on the Node.js platform and listens for statistics, like counters and timers, sent over UDP or TCP and sends aggregates to one or more pluggable backend services (e.g., Graphite)' and is an app. There are seven alternatives to StatsD for a variety of platforms, including Linux, Mac, Web-based, BSD and Self-Hosted apps. The best StatsD alternative is Netdata, which is free. Other great apps like StatsD are Netler, Telegraf, collectd and HostedMetrics.

collectd is a daemon which collects system performance statistics periodically and provides mechanisms to store the values in a variety of ways, for example in RRD files.
Use your favorite StatsD lib to generate custom metrics from your code and systems. We store them in your choice of metrics platform. As you'd expect, we provide Grafana for dashboards, and you also have the ability to configure alerts as needed.
