What is SoundSteps?

SoundSteps is listening practice for people who can hear that someone is talking but lose the words — especially in restaurants, groups, and on the phone.

Most hearing tools amplify sound or transcribe it. SoundSteps trains the skill instead. You practice with real recorded voices across a range of accents, with background noise you turn up or down yourself, so practice resembles the room you actually struggle in rather than a quiet booth. Exercises run from single words and minimal pairs up through sentences, conversations, and short stories, and difficulty adjusts to how you are doing.

It works with hearing aids, with cochlear implants, or with no device at all — including people whose hearing test came back normal but who still cannot follow conversation in noise. There is no device-brand lock-in.

You can start with a free listening check in any browser with no account and no card. Practice content is available in a growing set of languages.

SoundSteps is designed for hearing training and practice. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition.
