What is Snappy for Mac?

Snappy brings Ubuntu's screenshot flow to the Mac. Press one shortcut (⌘⇧2 by default) and the screen freezes. Drag a selection, then move or resize it until it's right, and click once to capture. macOS's built-in tool captures as soon as you let go; Snappy lets you adjust first.

Features:

  • Selection, window and full-screen capture from one toolbar
  • Quick markup on the selection: arrows, boxes, text and blur (blurred areas are pixelated in the saved image)
  • Copy Text: press ⌘C to copy the text in a selection instead of an image, recognized on-device
  • Remembers your last selection for repeat shots
  • Saves to a folder and copies to the clipboard, with a preview you can drag into other apps
  • Settings for the shortcut, save folder, PNG or JPEG, sounds and launch at login

A small native Swift menu bar app with no account and no analytics. It only goes online to check for updates, when you ask it to. Free and MIT licensed. Requires macOS 14 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel. Install from the website or with Homebrew.
