This app is incredible. It opened a massive CSV file with 1.2 million rows in just about 10 seconds—a file that made Excel crash completely.
The modern interface is fantastic and exciting to use, unlike older tools that feel outdated. I also heard there are plans to go open source in the future, which is great news. Highly recommended!

It opens CSV instantaneously on my Mac and allows for easy sorting by right clicking on column headers. A+. Only feature request I would like to see is opening .xlsx files natively from finder instead of needing to go through import menu in app.

This is a absolute killer app. Picture this: You need to explore visually some CSV data, so you double-slick the file and... wait for 20 seconds for Excel to boot up... Agggr. Instead, SmoothCSV does the job blazing fast. No wonder, it's written in rust. It also offers a very sleek interface and rich functionality to edit CSVs.
What is SmoothCSV?
SmoothCSV is a powerful, feature-rich CSV editor designed for speed and efficiency, making it an excellent alternative to traditional spreadsheet software for handling CSV files. It is built for macOS and Windows, with a Linux version on the way.
The application boasts an intuitive, Excel-like interface that ensures a smooth learning curve for new users. One of its standout features is its ability to handle very large files with ease, thanks to a custom-built virtual scrolling mechanism that overcomes browser limitations. This makes it ideal for data professionals and developers who regularly work with massive datasets.
Under the hood, SmoothCSV is built on a modern technology stack, using Tauri with a Rust backend and a React frontend. This results in a lightweight application with low memory usage and a small distribution size compared to Electron-based alternatives.
A unique and powerful feature is its SQL integration. Users can run SQL queries directly against CSV files using an SQL console and apply complex filters using SQL WHERE clauses, offering a level of data manipulation not commonly found in other CSV editors. The app also supports extensions, a command palette, and customizable keybindings, making it highly extensible.
- Opensourcing the app is on the roadmap
