What is SafeUnfollow?

SafeUnfollow reads the data export Instagram already lets you download (Accounts Center > Create export > "Followers and following", in either JSON or HTML — both are read) and shows who unfollowed you, who doesn't follow back, mutuals, pending and restricted accounts. The ZIP is parsed in a Web Worker and stored in the browser's IndexedDB — there is no backend and no upload, so no third party ever sees your follower list or your password. Built to stay interactive at very large exports (columnar storage and bitset filters). Free for any account size; MIT licensed; available in ten languages including Indonesian, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian. Optional one-time paid export of the results table. The site shows ads.

SafeUnfollow is the web app at safeunfollow.app. Nothing it publishes acts inside your Instagram session or asks for your Instagram login, and there is no browser extension: an unrelated Chrome extension happens to use the same name. It also does not unfollow anyone for you — it reads a snapshot you downloaded, and reports what changed.
