It hard to tell from the information on its website, but it sounds like Safebox essentially requires double the disk space to store your protected data, since both encrypted and unencrypted versions of each file are maintained.
Others similar utilities like Boxcryptor and encfs4win, which are both based on encFS, don't need to do this because they create a virtual folder on-the-fly that appears to contain the unencrypted version of the files based on the encrypted content. which is the only thing stored.
Can anyone verify whether this is true about Safebox or not? The question is not addressed in their FAQ.
