RME: Private PDF Scanner

RME: PDF & Document Scanner is a free, open-source Android document scanner built around privacy, local processing and document ownership.

Scan paper documents or import images and PDFs, recognize text on-device, search your library, create searchable PDFs and prepare safer copies for sharing without uploading documents to an RME server.

MULTILINGUAL ON-DEVICE OCR RME supports Latin-script languages including English, Romanian, German, French, Italian and Spanish, plus Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Devanagari. Latin OCR is built in. Additional OCR models can be downloaded through Google Play services and then used for on-device recognition. Review and correct OCR text, re-run OCR and process multiple documents with batch OCR.

SEARCH YOUR LIBRARY Search document titles, metadata and recognized text. Results can include matching text and page information so you can jump directly to the relevant page.

SHARE-SAFE COPIES Prepare a separate copy before sharing with:

• Irreversible blackout redaction
• Purpose and date watermarks
• Final preview before Save or Share
• Optional PDF size target
• Direct redaction positioning and zoomable review

FIT PDFS TO UPLOAD LIMITS Prepare PDFs for 200 KB, 500 KB, 1 MB, 2 MB or a custom limit. RME attempts to meet the requested size while preserving readability and avoids unnecessary recompression when a document already fits.

ID AND CARD COPY Create one PDF containing both sides of an ID or card:

• Capture or import front and back
• Review, zoom, rotate or replace each side
• Redact sensitive areas
• A4 or Letter output
• Automatic, vertical or horizontal layout

MOVE FROM ANOTHER SCANNER Import PDFs and images exported from CamScanner, Adobe Scan / Acrobat, Genius Scan, Microsoft Lens and other scanner apps using Android sharing or the system file picker.

BACKUP AND SECURITY Create and restore portable RME backups, move your library to another phone and optionally encrypt backups with a password. RME can also be protected with Android device authentication, including supported biometrics or device credentials.
