What is Jami?
Jami (formerly GNU Ring, SFLphone) positions itself as a potential free Skype replacement
Open Source and cross-platform. Jami gives you a full control over your communications and an unmatched level of privacy.
SIP-compatible softphone and SIP-based instant messenger for Linux, Microsoft Windows, macOS and Android.
Communicate in multiple ways: • A telephone: a simple tool to connect, communicate and share. • A teleconferencing tool: easily join calls to create conferences with multiple participants. • A media sharing tool: Jami supports a variety of video input options, including multiple cameras and image and video files, and the selection of audio inputs and outputs; all this is supported by multiple high quality audio and video codecs. • A messenger: send text messages during calls or out of calls (as long as your peer is connected). • A building block for your IoT project: re-use the universal communications technology of Jami with its portable library on your system of choice.
Developed and maintained by the Canadian company Savoir-faire Linux, and with the help of a global community of users and contributors.

Comments and Reviews
Great decentralised tool that is not difficult to adopt. Nifty way to share the account between devices, and also allows for extra SIP accounts. Most likely to grow into a decentralised, open source Skype killer, in my opinion!
I tried this app a few times over a year. After some time, the app stops receiving the messages. There is no way to refresh in manually, restarting doesn't fix it. One time it fixed when I called the person but then broke next day.
Jami is my favorite alternative to Skype. I highly recommend Jami.
Strength: • Free. No ads. • Unlimited. Without restriction on file size, speed, bandwidth, features, number of accounts, storage or anything else. • You can sign-in an unlimited amount of accounts at the same time on multiple devices. Then receive notification for all of them. • Easy to use. • Very strong security. Thanks to both its end-to-end encryption & peer-to-peer communications. Also complies with X.509 standard. • Distributed. It works with or without internet connection. Users who are on the same local network can communicate with Jami even if they are disconnected from the internet. Which is very handy in case of real emergency or unlikely natural catastrophe affecting external communication networks. In other words, Jami does not require a server for relaying data between users. • Multi-platform. Available on Linux, Android, AndroidTV, Windows, macOS and iOS. • Positions itself as a free Skype replacement • Optional SIP client account(s). Which allow you to answer & make VoIP telephone calls from anywhere in the world where you are connected to the internet. • Multilingual • Anonymous. This is optional. When you create your Jami account, no personal information needs to be provided. • Open source. If you are not familiar with "open source", it means this software has both stronger security & stronger privacy. Because its code is publicly available for review and contributions at https://git.jami.net/savoirfairelinux • Attractive GNU General Public License version 3. This means the software code of this extension is owned and supported by a friendly not-for-profit community. Instead of a for-profit corporation. https://git.jami.net/savoirfairelinux/ring-client-gnome/-/blob/master/COPYING

Using: • Jami version 20210427 • Debian version 10 Buster • GNOME version 3.30.2
Decentralized and encrypted. Available on all major devices. There is video conferencing and the ability to show a desktop.
Love the fact that it works offline if the person you're talking with is connected to the same router or other device like that
Cross-platform support, non-proprietary protocol, no phone required, free, decentralized!
