Apps similar to RegiStax include Autostakkert!, which is free. Other options are Planet Stacker X, Eise.app, Planetary System Stacker and WaveSharp. In total there are six apps like RegiStax for Windows, Mac, Linux and the web.
AutoStakkert! is all about alignment and stacking of image sequences, minimizing the influence of atmospheric distortions (seeing). Its goal is to create high quality images of the Planets, the Sun, and the Moon, without too much hassle.
Planet Stacker X is a powerful, Mac-native application that brings professional-grade planetary imaging within your reach.
Produce a sharp image of a planetary system object (moon, sun, planets) from many seeing-affected frames according to the "lucky imaging" technique. Runs on Mac, Windows and Linux.
WaveSharp is a free, 64-bit image processing software specifically designed for planetary, lunar, and solar astrophotography. Considered a modern successor to the widely used Registax 6.
Combines stacking, wavelet sharpening, and color balancing into one tool. Many users find its wavelet sharpening to be superior to Registax and report that it produces fewer artifacts on lunar images than AutoStakkert.
