What is Read Frog?

Read Frog is an open-source browser extension for reading and watching in a language you are learning.

  • Translates web pages side by side with the original, or shows only the translation.
  • Adds bilingual subtitles to YouTube and X videos. On the Pro and Ultra plans, AI can also transcribe videos that have no captions.
  • Translates selected text, and custom AI actions can look up a word or break down a long sentence.
  • Saves words and sentences to a notebase and brings them back as flashcards on an FSRS schedule.
  • Works with free built-in translators, with your own API key for OpenAI, DeepSeek, Gemini, DeepL or DeepLX, and with local models through Ollama or LM Studio.
