What is Quill (shinycake)?

Quill is an independent, open-source desktop client for Telegram, written from scratch in Rust. You sign in with your normal Telegram account and get your chats, groups, channels and calls. It talks to Telegram through TDLib, Telegram's own client library, and draws its interface on the GPU with GPUI, the UI framework from the Zed editor, with no browser engine inside. On an M1 Pro Mac it used about a third of Telegram Desktop's memory after launch. Quill is in beta and made mainly on macOS; the Windows and Linux builds have had little testing on real hardware. It is not affiliated with Telegram.
