ProperDocs information
What is ProperDocs?
ProperDocs is a fast, simple and highly flexible static site generator that's seeks to minimize the work needed to design and publish project documentation on the web. Everything is stored in simple plain text files, with Markdown files containing the content organized into folders that become the site's navigation structure, and the configuration that governs and customizes the output consolidated within a single YAML file.
The project is a community-maintained effort to continue to develop and support the hugely-popular Mkdocs documentation tool that was first released in 2014 and by 2025 was powering the project web sites of an estimated 90,000+ GitHub repositories. Properdocs is intended to be a drop-in replacement for Mkdocs, providing a path forward for users who wished to continue using it but worried about its security once development was stopped on the open source project and a closed-source replacement with many breaking changes was announced.
