What is PocketCatalog?
PocketCatalog is a flashcard learning app built around one core idea: your content stays local, only your progress syncs.
Card content — text, images, and LaTeX formulas — lives entirely on your device. The server only ever sees the name of your learning units and the spaced-repetition progress for cards you've explicitly activated. That means you can import a huge deck, activate just one lesson at a time, and keep the rest private and untracked until you're ready for it.
Key features:
- Spaced repetition (SM-2) for efficient long-term retention, synced across your devices
- Full Markdown formatting, LaTeX math ($...$ and $$...$$), and embedded images on both sides of every card
- Targeted practice mode for drilling specific cards outside the spaced-repetition schedule
- Bulk import from a simple text format — easy to write by hand or generate with an AI
- Direct Anki (.apkg) import: converts Basic and Basic-reversed notes (plus a simplified form of Cloze) into PocketCatalog cards, including images and LaTeX
- Export and share learning units as a single file — recipients get the cards and images, never your personal learning history
- Optional email reminders when enough cards are due
- Installable as a PWA for an app-like experience on desktop and mobile
If you're looking for a flashcard tool that treats your study material as yours — not as training data or ad-targeting fodder — PocketCatalog is worth a look.
