Plugboard is a free, open-source (MIT) desktop database client for PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, ClickHouse, Cassandra and Redis/Valkey. It runs on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), Windows and Linux.
Tables work like a spreadsheet: edit cells in place, add and delete rows, and review the exact SQL before you commit. Every save runs in one transaction. Large tables load as you scroll, up to 100,000 rows. Rows can be filtered and sorted, and a click on a foreign key opens the row it points to. JSON and long values open in their own editor with validation and formatting.
The SQL editor checks syntax as you type and asks the server to check it too. It marks errors right in the line, keeps your scripts and open tabs between launches, and exports results to CSV. You can also edit table structure and indexes, view the DDL of any object, draw a schema diagram (export to PNG or SVG), and manage server config and roles.
Plugboard is built to be safe on production. Connections can be tagged by environment and opened read-only, and the server enforces read-only too. On production, every write asks for confirmation first. SSH tunnels are built in, with host key checking.
Passwords are kept in the system keychain and never leave your computer. Nothing is synced to a cloud.
A built-in MCP server lets AI agents such as Claude Code, Cursor and Codex read the databases you choose to share, read-only by default.
Updates install themselves and are checked against signatures and checksums.
