PetaSAN uses modern cloud based technologies to provide the elasticity and agility to scale up the storage cluster simply by adding more nodes'. There are more than 10 alternatives to PetaSAN for a variety of platforms, including Linux, Self-Hosted solutions, VMware vSphere Hypervisor, BSD and SUSE Linux Enterprise. The best alternative is TrueNAS, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like PetaSAN are Unraid (Paid), XigmaNAS (Free, Open Source), StorPool (Paid) and ReadyNAS (Paid).
