I like Panopto because it is simple

Panopto is a great company that provides constantly-evolving and improving services for its users in the area of content management. Specifically, I use it in my position as Associate Professor at Eastern Michigan University to provide connected information to my students, record special events (guest presenters, impromptu or unique collaborations, etc.), and have students share their presentations with me and each other. I have used it since 2009 and have kept finding new ways to help my students succeed by incorporating it into my teaching.

The fact that the company is very responsive and visionary provides me with a sense of security, since I know that I won't need to learn a new system if they disappear -- they aren't going anywhere but forward. Their recording software is simple to use (I had had some of my students watch a brief, 3-minute introductory video before doing their first recording), reliable and continues to offer features that make my work more productive, like their SmartSearch, which indexes both spoken words and text appearing on the screen so it's easy to search for specific content without requiring additional work. They have taken a linear information format (video) and allowed it to become non-linear as well. It's better than doing a Google search since I am the one in control of the information being searched, and I can vet student recordings prior to allowing them to be accessed by other students, ensuring that only valid information is presented.

There are innumerable use cases for Panopto; search their website and you'll see some very innovative ways that people have already used it, and with their ever-expanding offerings I'm sure more will be coming soon.

Being able to record, edit and share easily ... from anywhere and for everyone both teachers and students is transforming teaching and learning at my insitution. It is helping to engage students in learning, widening participation by increasing flexible learning opportunities, enabling innovation with video in learning and teaching.

New colleagues I introduce to the system are very pleased to discover how easy it is to create their own content with Panopto's personal capture tools. Panopto is integrated into our VLE, and used thoughout our institution for scheduled lecture capture. The learning resource it provides and enhancement to our student's experience is invaluable.

Panopto is a lecture capture system that also has loads of other features that makes it useful in a wide range of situations. For an end use the interface is simple to use and allows basic editing, importing of other video content, search functions and much more. On a larger scale we use this to record lectures across the University to great success with 100 of Thousands of hours of video recorded over the last 2 and a half years. The system has great uptime and works well and is regarded as a great resource by students.
