OwnJournal information
What is OwnJournal?
OwnJournal is a privacy-first, open source journaling app built around one principle: your journal should belong to you. Unlike most journaling apps, OwnJournal does not store your entries on its own servers. Instead, your journal lives in your own cloud storage account — Google Drive, Dropbox, or Nextcloud. You stay in full control of your data at all times, and you can access or export it whenever you want without depending on OwnJournal. OwnJournal is fully open source under the AGPL-3.0 license. You can inspect the code, verify the privacy claims for yourself, self-host the app, or contribute to its development. No black boxes. For an extra layer of security, you can enable end-to-end encryption. Entries are encrypted on your device before being saved, meaning no one — including OwnJournal — can read your journal. OwnJournal is designed to be simple and distraction-free. Write daily entries, reflect on your thoughts, and build a journaling habit without worrying about who has access to your most private writing. Available as a web app and on Android. A free tier is available, with Plus at $19.99/year.
