OpenWISP is a free and open-source platform for efficient IT network deployment, monitoring & management. It allows automation of many aspects of networks: from configuration to monitoring, RADIUS, hotspots, mesh and firmware upgrades, all backed by the reliability of the Linux Kernel and OpenWrt.
OpenWISP can be used to implement a LAN or WAN, right up to a complete public WiFi service. OpenWISP is ideal for small teams managing large networks on a budget. However, OpenWISP may not be the best fit for very small networks (fewer than 20 devices), or organizations lacking IT expertise.
- Primarily targets OpenWrt devices (currently 2700+ devices) - however OpenWISP can work with devices that do not run OpenWrt using standard protocols like SSH, SNMP, and APIs, which allow it to manage different types of network devices. Non-OpenWrt devices can still benefit from OpenWISP’s monitoring, IP management, and automation capabilities with appropriate configuration.
- Device Templates - Define reusable configuration templates that apply updates system-wide with a single change.
- Automatic Provisioning - Seamlessly connect and configure new devices with zero-touch auto registration.
- Automatic VPN configuration - provision secure VPN tunnels with all required configurations, x509 certificate management. Can utilise OpenVPN, ZeroTier and more.
- Network Monitoring - Monitor performance, latency, reachability, hardware usage, traffic patterns, and Wi-Fi clients.
- Configurable notifications and alerts.
- Multi-tenancy - Isolate tenants within separate organizations, while super administrators maintain full oversight. Allows multiple networks with different security profiles, distributed among multiple VPNs.
- Firmware upgrades - individual or batch updates.
- Network topology maps.
- Seamless WiFi roaming.
- Hotspots & Public WiFi - Customizable captive portals, self-registration, authentication, subscription management.
- RADIUS & EAP - to handle authentication, authorization and accounting across a network
- IPAM - automatically provision subnets according to allocation rules
- Community and Commercial support available
- White-labelling/re-branding of the admin interface permitted and possible
