What is openplate?

  • Photograph a plate, get the macros. Your AI provider estimates carbs, protein, fat, and fiber. Use OpenRouter, Mistral, Anthropic, or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint.
  • Host it for your friends and family. Run one instance with INSTANCE_MODE=managed. Invite people from the admin screen. Users sign in with AI access preconfigured: no one pastes a key. Set daily or weekly allowances per person, and suspend users at any time. One provider key, one bill. See how to host it.
  • Local-first by default. The app uses no accounts. The diary stays in the browser on your device, and the server has no database.
  • Sync across devices, when you want it. The device encrypts the diary before upload. Your own hardware for the AI. Run the inference service with open-weight models. Plate photos stay on your network.
  • Free and open-source. MIT license. One container runs the base setup. An open-source, self-hosted food tracker with BYOK (bring-your-own-key) AI plate identification. Take a photo of your plate. Your chosen AI provider (OpenRouter, Mistral, any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or Anthropic) estimates the macros. You keep your key, your provider, and your data.
