What is OpenBot?

OpenBot is an open-source, local-first platform for running and coordinating AI agents. It provides a local agent server where agents can process events, manage threads and channels, use plugins, and interact through a small API designed for agent-based automation.

The platform includes a built-in OpenBot system agent with an LLM runtime, a deterministic state agent for non-LLM operations, local storage for agents, plugins, configuration and variables, and support for custom agents defined with AGENT.md files. OpenBot can be extended with shared plugins, streams events to clients through Server-Sent Events, and is intended for building personal AI assistants, multi-agent setups, and local automation systems.
