What is Open Harbor?

Harbor keeps a household’s paperwork in one place on a machine the household controls. Documents arrive by drag-and-drop or by email, are OCR’d, and become searchable by every word on every page. Each one gets a suggested title, category, owner and dates, which a person confirms or changes. Due dates and amounts found in documents become to-dos, linked to the document they came from.

Files are encrypted at rest and backed up nightly to a second disk, an SFTP host or a Backblaze B2 bucket, with an automated restore test every month. It can be reached privately over Tailscale, at its own domain over HTTPS, or on the local network. Others in the household join by invitation. Suggestions come from a language model the owner chooses, hosted or local, or from none.

Open source under AGPL-3.0. Installs with one script on a Linux machine with Docker.
