Nifty File Lists

Nifty File Lists is a macOS utility for turning files and folders into customizable inventories, manifests and metadata reports. Add one or more source folders, choose the columns you need, and inspect both the interactive table and the final export while metadata extraction continues.

Lists can include filenames, extensions, full and relative paths, parent-folder levels, sizes, creation and modification dates, Finder tags and comments, Spotlight attributes, document properties, and MD5 or SHA checksums. For media collections it extracts EXIF, IPTC and GPS photo metadata, image dimensions and color information, plus ID3 and other audio and video fields. A scan can be filtered to just images, video, audio, documents or everything else.

Export as a paginated PDF manifest with title, repeating headers, page numbers and a provenance stamp (source folder, file count, total size, date), as aligned plain text for printing, as CSV or TSV for Microsoft Excel and Apple Numbers (empty columns are dropped automatically), as Markdown, as HTML 5 for publishing, as JSON for data workflows, or copy the table straight into Excel via the clipboard. Columns can be added, removed, reordered and formatted; lists can be sorted by name, path, size and multiple date fields.

The multithreaded engine stays responsive on collections of hundreds of thousands of files. Everything is processed locally with no cloud component or telemetry. Nifty File Lists runs on macOS on Intel and Apple silicon and is sold as a one-time purchase with a free trial. English and French are supported.
