Network Link Conditioner information
What is Network Link Conditioner?
Network Link Conditioner is a free network simulation tool from Apple, bundled with Xcode's Additional Tools package. It allows developers to simulate various network conditions including 3G, Edge, high latency, and packet loss across the entire system.
On macOS it requires a separate download from Apple's developer portal, installation as a System Preferences pane, and a settings restart to apply any changes. On iOS it is available natively under Settings > Developer > Network Link Conditioner.
While useful for basic network testing, the tool has not been meaningfully updated in several years and is considered dated by many developers. It affects the entire system connection rather than isolating to a specific app or simulator.
