What is NanoPrint?

NanoPrint is a free, open-source print agent that lets web applications print receipts and kitchen orders straight to thermal printers, without the browser's print dialog.

It runs quietly in the system tray on Windows, macOS and Linux and speaks the qz-tray.js protocol for raw (ESC/POS) printing, so web apps built for QZ Tray usually work without code changes. Developers send ESC/POS commands built with any encoder, such as ReceiptPrinterEncoder.

Security comes first: every website must ask for permission once, NanoPrint only accepts connections from the same computer, and printed content is never stored. Permissions can be revoked at any time, and you choose which printers websites can use.

Features:

  • Raw ESC/POS printing to 58 mm and 80 mm thermal receipt printers installed in the system (USB or network)
  • Compatible with qz-tray.js for raw printing; no Java needed
  • Permission per website, asked once and remembered, with a list to revoke access
  • Printers panel with a test page; virtual printers (PDF, XPS, fax) are hidden from websites by default
  • One-click setup for secure (https) websites with a local certificate
  • 30-day history of print jobs, never their content
  • Websites can start a closed NanoPrint with a nanoprint:// link
  • English and Spanish interface; installer of a few megabytes
  • Auto-updates
