What is MSDF Atlas Studio?

MSDF Atlas Studio is a modern, free, and open-source desktop GUI workstation for generating Multi-channel Signed Distance Field (MSDF) font texture atlases for real-time graphics and game engines.

Unlike traditional single-channel SDF generators that produce rounded or blurry corners at sharp angles, MSDF Atlas Studio uses Viktor Chlumský’s multi-channel distance field algorithm to preserve razor-sharp corners and contours even under extreme scaling.

Key Features:

  • Visual Desktop GUI: Replaces cumbersome CLI tools with a responsive, modern interface.
  • 4 Distance Field Modes: MSDF (RGB), MTSDF (RGBA contour + distance), classic SDF, and PSDF.
  • Live Fragment Shader Sandbox: Inspect text in real time with interactive controls for font colors, procedural outlines, and drop shadows before exporting.
  • Glyph Matrix & Kerning: Full inspection of Unicode codepoints, plane bounds, advance metrics, and FreeType kerning tables.
  • Multi-Engine Exports: Export directly to AngelCode BMFont (.fnt/.xml), standard JSON, native Godot 4 BitmapFont (.tres), and zero-dependency static C header structs (.h) for Raylib and pure C/C++ pipelines.
  • Free & Open Source: 100% MIT licensed with prebuilt portable releases for Windows, Linux, and macOS.
