What is Movim?
Movim is a federated blogging and chat platform that acts as a web frontend for the XMPP protocol, providing a secure, decentralized communication experience. It integrates chatrooms, news feeds, stories, and video-conferences into one seamless interface, accessible across all devices.
Movim leverages the XMPP network, allowing you to connect with users of other apps like Conversations (Android) or Dino (Desktop). You can explore the entire network, join multiple XMPP servers, or set up a private social platform with friends using a single server. The platform supports blogs and communities, enabling real-time content sharing with automatic embedding of links, images, and videos. Its tag-based discovery system helps you find relevant content quickly.
For blogging, Movim offers rich text editing with Markdown support and automatic draft saving. Share everyday moments with friends through Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Chatrooms and chats in Movim are feature-rich, supporting end-to-end encrypted conversations, media sharing, and customizable messages. Video-calls allow one-to-one or group calls with screen sharing and multiple display modes.
Movim is a Progressive Web App, easy to install on all your devices, and supports over 50 languages. Looked so promising! Allegedly has groups! Then you try to sign up for this thing.
First, they want you to sign up for XMPP, which I had to look up what that is. The old JABBER client, which ok, no one back in the day knew what that was either.
So I sign up with an email on their XMPP link. Then I try to log into movim.eu. Nope! You can’t. You have to try to log into your XMPP account. They send a message there.
There is no way of getting into your XMPP account.
So, this is another “trip to nowhere”!!! What a disappointment!
