MoneyMatter

MoneyMatter is a free and open-source personal finance app built for people who want full control over their financial data. Instead of trading your transaction history for "free" software, MoneyMatter lets you either use the hosted cloud version or self-host the entire stack on your own server under the AGPL-3.0 license – your data is never sold, shared, or harvested.

The app covers the full personal-finance workflow:

• Bank account synchronization – connect supported banks (Monobank today, more on the roadmap) to auto-sync transactions, or import via CSV and bank statements.
• AI-powered categorization – categorize a transaction once and let the system learn your patterns, so future imports are sorted automatically.
• Custom categories & tags – build your own hierarchy instead of being forced into a vendor's preset structure.
• Budgets – set spending goals per category or group, track progress with visual feedback, and stay on target.
• Investment portfolio tracking – monitor securities, holdings, gains, and allocation alongside your everyday accounts (beta).
• Multi-currency support – hold accounts in any currency with automatic exchange rates; ideal for travelers, expats, and freelancers paid internationally.
• Recurring transactions & subscriptions – detect subscriptions automatically, manage upcoming payments, and forecast cash flow.
• Transaction groups, splits, transfers, refunds – model real-world money movement accurately, not just flat ledgers.
• Analytics – spending by category, cash flow, balance history, and projected balance growth on the Analytics page.
• Household / shared accounts (soon) – share specific accounts with family or partners while keeping the rest of your finances private.
• AI assistant integration via MCP – connect Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible client and ask natural-language questions like "how much did I spend on groceries last quarter?" or have an AI create transactions, budgets, and reports for you. This is what makes MoneyMatter unique among budget trackers.
• Self-hosting – full Docker + Traefik + Let's Encrypt guide for running on a single VPS, with split subdomains for app and API. Your data stays on hardware you control.
• Data export – your data is yours; export it anytime.
