What is Messenger for Mac?

Messenger for Mac is a standalone desktop application for Facebook Messenger on macOS, created after Meta discontinued their official desktop app in 2023.

Instead of keeping a browser tab open for Messenger, this app gives you a dedicated window that lives in your dock like any native Mac application.

Key Features:

• Native macOS app - runs as a standalone application, not in a browser • Persistent login - stay logged in between app restarts • Voice & video calls - full support for all Messenger calling features • Dark mode - follows your macOS appearance settings • Lightweight - uses significantly less memory than a browser tab • Keyboard shortcuts - standard macOS shortcuts work as expected • Signed & notarized - verified by Apple, no security warnings

Privacy:

The app simply loads messenger.com in a native window. No data collection, no tracking, no analytics. All communication goes directly to Facebook's servers. The source code is fully open source and available on GitHub for review.

Technical:

Built with Electron. Requires macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) or later. The app is code-signed and notarized by Apple for security.

Free and open source under the MIT license.
