Different solution. Don't really fix the problem, but it's enough for me.
The only issue is a bug, when you are changing the size it opens all applications. Because It's a one time config thing, this is not a huge concern for me as well.

Reverting the changes is just as simple, done within the app. If you have a large display, the app can also increase the gap between menu bar items.
