MDVI Alternatives
MDVI is described as 'aims to provide a library that can be used to implement DVI drivers easily. A DVI driver is included, and uses the X Window System to display files. However, MDVI is in its very early stages of development' and is an app. There are three alternatives to MDVI for Windows and Linux. The best alternative is javaDVI, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like MDVI are xdvi and DVIWIN.
This is the second release of javaDVI, a DVI viewer and printer coded in Java. You will need Java RTE 1.3 to run this application.
xdvi is a program to display TeX .dvi files under the X Window System. It runs under Unix (and look-alikes) and possibly VMS. I am also aware of a version that runs under Desqview/X, but do not know much about it.
DVIWIN is a Windows viewer and print driver for TeX DVI files. DVIWIN is written by Hippocrates Sendoukas, and is free for individual and non-commercial use.
