MailRules

MailRules files new mail in iCloud, Fastmail, Zoho, Yahoo or your own IMAP server by rules you write in plain English or build from conditions. Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 aren't supported, since Microsoft allows only its own sign-in.

MailRules: a rule written in plain English, and three new emails it moved to Jobs, moved to Trash or kept in the inbox, each with a reason.

What is MailRules?

MailRules files new mail in iCloud, Fastmail, Zoho, Yahoo or your own IMAP server by rules you write in plain English or build from conditions. Outlook.com and Microsoft 365 aren't supported, since Microsoft allows only its own sign-in. The moves happen on the mail server, so every mail app on every device sees the result. Self-hosted, AGPL-3.0.

Each email takes the cheapest check that can decide it. Known senders and plain conditions (sender, domain, recipient, subject, any header, attachment, size) come first and make no model calls. Only mail they can't place goes to a decision model you choose, and a small LLM is asked for a second opinion only when that model is unsure. Mail it still isn't sure about stays in the inbox, untouched, for you to review.

New installs start in dry-run, logging what they would do without touching the mailbox, and listen on localhost only. Nothing is permanently deleted: "trash" goes to its own MailRules Trash folder, and any action, or a whole batch, can be undone for 30 days. Every decision in the activity feed comes with a one-sentence reason.

Decision models: Jev, Clef, Anthropic, any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, or Ollama to keep decisions on your own machine (without the Claude second opinion), set globally or per rule. It runs as one Go binary with the web UI built in, a Docker image, a Compose file or a Homebrew cask, on Linux and macOS. It is not a mail client and not a spam filter. A hosted version is coming.
