What is Long Path and Filename Editor?

Long Path and Filename Editor (LPFE) is a Windows utility for finding and shortening file and folder paths that exceed the traditional 260-character limit. It recursively scans selected local or mapped network locations, flags oversized paths, and displays proposed renames before making changes.

LPFE provides built-in rules for removing spaces, underscores, dashes, periods, commas, brackets, parentheses, and other non-alphanumeric characters, along with custom find-and-replace rules and text-file imports. Parent folders are renamed before their children, and committed batches can be reversed with one-click undo. The application also creates timestamped CSV audit logs and supports reusable rule templates.
